To ensure a smooth marriage process, the following documents are required:
The Costa Rican couple must present their identity cards and a certificate of single status issued by the Registro Civil confirming their civil status.
The marriage will not be recognized abroad until the Civil Registry of Costa Rica issues the marriage certificate, which usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. In addition, the documents must be translated by an accredited official translator, authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, depending on the country, notarized by the consular section of your embassy.
