The Rescue
We rescued this fuselage from its resting place at San José airport and carefully transported the parts on five large trucks to the jungle of Manuel Antonio, where they were resurrected into a one-of-a-kind suite. Our classic plane, on the edge of the Parque Nacional in the Costa Verde II area, rises on a 15-meter pedestal, with a wooden terrace built over what was its right wing.
The Interior
The interior is clad in Costa Rican teak from the cabin to the tail. The furniture is hand-carved teak brought from Java, Indonesia. The suite has two air-conditioned bedrooms with private bathrooms, a flat-screen TV, a small kitchen with a microwave, a dining area, a terrace with an ocean view and a private entrance via a river-stone spiral staircase.
The Inspiration
Our Boeing 727 home is not the only one of its kind in the world: we were inspired by an article in Forbes about a company that offered hurricane-proof homes made from surplus Boeing 727 fuselages. We were intrigued and found new ways to bring comfort and luxury to this prosaic piece of aluminum.
